Classic Kitchen Transformation | York | More Kitchens

Problem.

Having previously entrusted us (Passmore Group) with the refurbishment of their bathroom and cloakroom the previous year, the Jones family returned to us to redesign their open-plan kitchen and utility room.

Their existing kitchen felt disconnected from their newly built extension, and they sought a cohesive, functional space that blended modern amenities with the character of their older home.

Solution.

To create a seamless flow between the kitchen, dining area, and extension, we removed the dividing wall, requiring structural reports and new steels. The entire kitchen, utility room, and flooring were stripped out. We replaced the extension's double Georgian doors with sleek sliding patio doors and enlarged an existing window to enhance the garden view.

For the kitchen, we installed a large, central kitchen island with deep drawer storage and an induction hob, perfect for social cooking.

The island extended to seat four, creating a casual dining space. Tall units were strategically placed along the rear wall to house the fridge, freezer, and high-level Neff oven appliances, with the sink area integrated into the design.

New inset ceiling lighting, under-cabinet lights, and pendant lights over the island were added to brighten the space. Modern vertical radiators were installed throughout, and the flooring was updated with a warm oak-toned Georgian parquet, unifying the rooms.

The utility room was designed to function as a boot room, with ample storage for coats and shoes, and concealed appliances, keeping the space both practical and tidy.

Results.

The transformation exceeded the Jones family's expectations. The new kitchen design is not only stylish and modern but also highly functional, providing a versatile space for cooking, dining, and entertaining. The cohesive design, with its luxurious painted ash shaker doors and Veneto Royal quartz countertops, perfectly blends the modern with the traditional, making the kitchen a true centrepiece of their home.

Conclusion.

This project showcases the successful integration of modern design with the character of an older property. By reimagining the layout and incorporating high-quality materials, we created a functional, beautiful family space that will serve the Jones family for years to come.
