Classic U Shaped Kitchen Case Study | Leeds | West Yorkshire

Published: 5 January 2021

A tired and poorly utilised galley kitchen was transformed into a classic kitchen concept that made best use of the available space with integrated appliances and clever kitchen storage ideas.

Having been recommended to us Ms Shepherd contacted More Kitchens with a clear idea of what she wanted the project to achieve. Featuring traditional beech effect kitchen cupboards, timber cladding to the walls and contrasting worktops, flooring and decorative design it was set out from the start that a consistent functional design with additional storage was a must.

Upon booking a design appointment, Ms Shepherd was visited by Senior Designer, Simon, who along with discussing the renovation requirements was able to offer expert help and advice while providing a number of design ideas which would help achieve the project brief.

Focusing on incorporating additional storage Simon proposed installing a bank of tall units and an additional larder unit. Later housing a number of integrated appliances, the tall units allowed for eye level installation of the oven and microwave, lending to an accessible and functional design while freeing up worktop space and floor space for further base units. In addition, Simon proposed utilising the corners of the room with corner units in order to make the best use of the available space which would otherwise be left redundant.

Opting for a lighter colour scheme in the selection of the solvent white shaker style door the kitchen lighting was also assessed with updated down lights and under counter task lighting incorporated in the design.

Elongating the space while meeting the requirement of a consistent design a contrasting yet complimentary colour scheme was applied to the kitchen worktops and kitchen flooring which finished off the project and was the remaining requirement of the customers brief.

Despite various unforeseen problems arising whilst replacing my old kitchen with a new one from scratch, each one was overcome with ease thanks to my excellent kitchen fitter Mick.

The end result was fantastic and just what I needed with a few more additions made with spare pieces of material i.e. extra shelves and a tray recess area. An added bonus was the frequent visits of Rob to check that everything was progressing as it should be. Highly recommended.
