Contemporary Kitchen Transformation | Harrogate | More Kitchens

Background
Mr & Mrs Hall, who had recently moved into their home in July, approached us to transform their existing kitchen, which was both dated and impractical. The space featured timber doors, a heavy tiled floor, and dark granite worktops, creating a gloomy atmosphere.
The lack of cohesion with the adjoining dining area further emphasised the need for a complete redesign. They envisioned a contemporary, modern kitchen with ample work surfaces and an integrated seating area. While they had a clear preference for dark blue plain units paired with striking white quartz, they sought our advice to achieve their dream kitchen.
Problem
The primary challenge was the kitchen’s dark and uninviting feel. The dated materials and finishes absorbed light, and the layout lacked functionality and flow. Additionally, the room's lack of harmony with the dining area detracted from the overall open space. The clients wanted a modern, cohesive design that would maximize light, provide ample work surfaces, and include an informal eating area.
Objective
The goal was to create a bright, contemporary kitchen with a sleek and modern aesthetic. The kitchen design needed to prioritise practicality, light reflection, and achieve a cohesive integration with open plan dining area.
Key objectives included optimising the kitchen layout, selecting finishes that enhanced brightness, and incorporating a seating peninsula to create a sociable and functional space.
Kitchen Design
To meet the brief, Senior Designer Julie proposed significant layout changes to improve functionality and openness. By consolidating all the tall units onto one side of the room, the design freed up the opposite wall for extensive work surfaces and included a large seating peninsula with an inset hob. This layout not only improved the flow but also created a striking focal point in front of the existing French doors.
The cabinetry featured dark blue plain units, chosen for their bold and contemporary look. These were complemented by sleek, inline handles that added a modern finish. Striking white quartz worktops were installed, reflecting light and providing a beautiful contrast to the cabinetry.
To create a standout feature, a bronze and copper mirrored splashback was added above the sink area, enhancing the depth and warmth of the design.
New inset ceiling lighting ensured even illumination throughout the space, while LED under-wall lighting highlighted the sharpness of the white quartz. Pendant lights above the peninsula added a personal and stylish touch.
To unify the kitchen and dining area, Wild Amber Oak flooring was installed, its warm hues tying together the bronze and copper tones from the splashback.
Kitchen Installation
The full design and fit project required a full strip-out of the existing kitchen. The ceiling, which was uneven, was redone to ensure a flawless finish for the new inset lighting. Project Manager Rob coordinated every aspect of the installation, ensuring a seamless and stress-free process for the clients.
Multi-Skilled Fitter Andy executed the design with meticulous craftsmanship. He installed the cabinetry, worktops, and splashback with precision, achieving a polished and cohesive appearance.
The peninsula, positioned to maximize natural light from the French doors, became the centrepiece of the room, offering ample seating and work surface space. The flooring was carefully prepared and installed to flow seamlessly between the kitchen and dining areas, creating a cohesive and inviting space.
Outcome
The completed kitchen exceeded the clients' expectations, delivering a contemporary and bright design that balanced practicality with style.
The new layout improved functionality and enhanced the room’s sense of openness. The combination of bold cabinetry, reflective surfaces, and thoughtful details such as the bronze and copper splashback resulted in a striking yet cohesive aesthetic.
The clients were thrilled with the transformation, sharing their feedback on Trustpilot:
"We are delighted with our new kitchen. Thank you to Julie, Rob and especially Andy. We always felt we were in safe hands with people who were very professional, made the process as stress-free as possible and genuinely cared. Would definitely recommend."
