Open-Plan Kitchen Transformation | Harrogate | More Kitchens

Background

Ms. Smith initially approached us with a clear vision for her Kitchen renovation and had already engaged with a builder to carry out the extensive structural changes required. Providing us with photos of the previous layout, the images showed a traditional layout that felt compartmentalised and outdated.

Problem

The main issue Ms. Smith wanted to address was the need for a more open-plan living space that would foster everyday social interactions. She wanted to make the kitchen area the heart of the home, seamlessly connecting the dining and living areas, while closing off the lounge to create a more intimate and defined space.

Objective

Ms. Smith was clear about the structural kitchen layout changes she wanted but needed guidance on the design of the new kitchen. Her goal was to achieve an open-plan living space that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

She envisioned a bright and light-filled area with a classic, timeless look. Storage was a major priority, as she wanted the new kitchen to be both practical and clutter-free.

Kitchen Design

Senior Designer Julie worked closely with Ms. Smith to refine her vision and suggest an L-shaped kitchen layout with central kitchen island. This design not only complemented her goal for an open-plan space that facilitated social, interactive living, but also provided the possibility of adding French doors to lead directly to the garden, opening up the space further by bringing the outdoors in during the summer months.

To achieve the light and classic kitchen look Ms. Smith desired, Julie recommended shaker-style doors in Bleached Stone, featuring a slimmer frame to maintain a modern edge. Storage solutions were carefully planned, including a tall bank of cabinets with a double-opening chef's pantry, a pull-out corner solution, and deep, wide drawers in the island, ensuring all storage was fully accessible and functional.

Ms. Smith expressed a preference for brushed brass accents, so Julie incorporated scoop brushed brass handles, a white ceramic undermount sink with a brushed brass tap, and Ora Quartz work surfaces with subtle gold tones running through them to add a touch of luxury.

The kitchen island became the focal point of the kitchen, offering a versatile area for cooking, dining, and socialising. The island was designed to house the hob and included space for seating, making it an ideal spot for a more casual dining experience.

Creating detailed CAD visuals to help Ms. Smith visualise how the new space would function for her and her family, Julie presented these at our Harrogate Kitchen Showroom while supporting Ms Smith in choosing her finishing touches.

Completing the design, Ms Smith choose LVT kitchen flooring in Naked Blond Oak, which complemented the overall colour scheme and added warmth to the space. Adding a personal touch, a brushed brass pendant light was incorporated over the island, brining all elements of the design together.

Kitchen Installation.

Project Managing the installation, Rob ensured that any changes or out-of-stock items were promptly handled and was always on hand to address any concerns throughout the project.

Multi-Skilled Fitter Gary took charge of the on-site installation, delivering exceptional workmanship in joinery, plumbing, electrics, and plastering. Gary’s considered tweaks to the design as the installation came together ensured the space really worked and consistently communicated with Ms. Smith to ensure she was satisfied at every stage of the installation.

The fully project managed transformation resulted in a beautifully cohesive open-plan kitchen that perfectly met Ms. Smith's needs. Light, airy, and inviting, with ample storage the classic design will stand the test of time.
